Harukawa said it would be easy to draw the main character in white in any scenario. To hint at the character's ability to transform into a white tiger, artist Sango Harukawa depicted him with white hair and a long, dangling belt resembling a tail. Manga writer Kafka Asagiri originally created Atsushi Nakajima as a 24-year-old man instead of an 18-year-old.
